New regulations for foreigners applying for a tourist visa to Vietnam 2025 – 2026

According to the provisions of the amended Law on Entry, Exit, Transit, and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam, from August 15, 2023, Vietnam will have new policies and regulations regarding tourist visas and the entry and exit procedures for foreigners entering Vietnam for tourism purposes. The new regulations include extending the duration of tourist visas (DL) and E-Visas for tourism to 3 months; increasing the visa exemption period for tourism purposes to 45 days for certain countries.

The new regulations on opening up to foreign tourists in Vietnam

A tourist visa is a type of visa used for foreigners entering Vietnam for the purpose of vacationing, with a specific duration of stay. Once this period expires, if foreigners wish to continue their tour, they can extend their stay in Vietnam according to regulations. 1. New regulations regarding Vietnam tourist visas

– Implement the issuance of electronic visas (Evisa Vietnam) for citizens of all countries and territories around the world, regardless of nationality or country.

– The validity period of the electronic visa is extended from 30 days to 3 months (not exceeding 90 days), valid for single or multiple entries;

– The duration of visa exemption for foreign tourists entering Vietnam has changed from 15 days to 45 days according to current regulations.

2. Types of tourist visas for foreigners entering Vietnam under the new regulations

– EV visa: EV is the designation for the Vietnam electronic visa (Vietnam E-visa), which currently has a validity period ranging from 30 days (1 month) to 90 days (3 months) according to regulations.

– DL visa: DL is a type of tourist visa granted to foreigners traveling on a tour organized by a travel agency in Vietnam, with a duration ranging from 30 days (1 month) to 90 days (3 months).

– Visa exemption for Vietnam: Applicable to foreigners who are granted unilateral or bilateral visa exemptions by Vietnam, with the duration depending on each country or territory. Travelers under this visa exemption do not have to pay visa fees or go through the usual visa application procedures.

3. Procedures for applying for a tourist visa to Vietnam for foreigners entering the country

– Conditions for entering Vietnam for tourism purposes

– The temporary residence procedure for foreigners is exempt from a visa to enter Vietnam.

Citizens of countries exempt from Vietnamese visas do not need to apply for a tourist visa before entering Vietnam. The simplest way to apply for a Vietnamese visa is to apply for an electronic visa (Vietnam e-visa). Foreigners access the website of the Vietnam Immigration Department to complete the online visa registration process by filling out information and paying the required fees. The Immigration Department will return the results online, and foreigners can print them out or save them on their phones. At the border checkpoint where foreigners enter, they must present their passport along with the visa file for inspection and to be granted entry.
